OSHA has cited 3 Amazon facilities in Florida, Illinois, and New York for exposing workers to “ergonomic hazards.” These citations could cost Amazon $60,269 in penalties. Following the inspections, OSHA cited Amazon for violating the general duty clause in the Occupational Safety and Health Act, as well as exposing worker to struck-by hazards.

According to OSHA, Amazon workers are at a higher risk for musculoskeletal disorders, including lower back pain, given workers’ need to lift heavy boxes and work long hours.

In a recent statement, Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health Doug Parker said, "Each of these inspections found work processes that were designed for speed but not safety, and they resulted in serious worker injuries. While Amazon has developed impressive systems to make sure its customers' orders are shipped efficiently and quickly, the company has failed to show the same level of commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of its workers."
