Worker crushed to death at South Carolina Michelin plant

A worker at the Michelin tire manufacturing facility in Lexington, South Carolina, has been crushed to death. According to WLTX News 19, coworkers found the man pinned between pieces of machinery at the plant. Margaret Fisher, the corner in Lexington County, identified the man as 57-year-old Mark S. Lepkowski. After an autopsy, the cause of death was determined to be compressional asphyxia.

In a statement to the Lexington County Chronicle, a representative from Michelin North America said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Lepkowski, who was employed by our contractor Southern Industrial Constructors and worked at our Lexington site for many years. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Michelin is committed to the safety and well-being of all employees and contractors who work at our facilities, and we are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.”
