It finally happens. After years of faithful service, your beloved lawn mower refuses to start. You tinker with it for a week before accepting the painful reality that you will have to purchase a new one. But before you can visit the nearest hardware store or begin comparison shopping online, you must answer one polarizing question. Should you purchase a gas- or electric-powered lawn mower? Electric lawn mowers are cleaner and quieter, but cords limit your mobility and batteries can run out quickly. Gas lawn movers are more durable and can cut through tall grass easily, but they require more maintenance and emit toxins.  If you’re looking for an alternative, you could always put your DIY skills to the test and engineer your own wood-powered lawn mower.
