Supplies at Work: Honeywell to drive production efficiency at Valio ingredients facility
Honeywell (www.honeywell.com) has been selected by Valio (www.ammattilaiset.valio.fi) to provide a production automation system for a new plant producing demineralized whey powder at its complex in Lapinlahti, Finland.
Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) will deploy its Experion Process Knowledge System, unifying process, assets and people in order to boost business agility, and allowing existing Valio process equipment to integrate into the new automation system. The company will also modify the architecture of Valio’s existing Process History Database to provide a richer, more flexible environment for the collection, storage and analysis of process data used in the facility. HPS will also install, test and commission the new equipment.

MicroSeismic (www.microseismic.com), a Houston, Texas-based geophysical services company serving the oil and gas industry, has selected IFS Applications (www.ifsworld.com) as its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system of record.
MicroSeismic deploys people, proprietary technology and equipment to monitor subsurface conditions during hydraulic fracturing processes to help oil and gas well operators:
• Stay in zone in order to maximize recovery
• Maximize estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) by helping operators have a better understanding of their fracture programs.
Microseismic has licensed a suite of IFS Applications functionality including IFS Business Performance, IFS Service Management, IFS Project Management, IFS Document Management, IFS Supply Chain, and IFS Sales & Marketing.

Supplies at Work: ABB wins service order for renewable energy connection in the North Sea
ABB (www.abb.com) has won an order from the Dutch-German transmission system operator, TenneT (http://www.tennet.org/english), to provide maintenance services for the DolWin2 link bringing power from offshore wind farms, located in the North Sea, to the mainland German grid.
DolWin2 will deploy the world’s largest offshore HVDC (high-voltage direct current) system with a rating of over 900 megawatts (MW), keeping electrical losses to less than 1 percent per converter station. The completed link will be capable of supplying more than 1.5 million households with clean wind-generated electricity.
As part of the maintenance contract, ABB will keep up the land- and sea-based HVDC converter stations connecting the wind farms via an offshore platform to the grid.
