This week marked the first ever Manufacturing Week in the UK. Part of EEF's We Heart Manufacturing campaign, this historic event involved a series of regional and national events geared toward manufacturers, politicians, the media and anyone with a love for the industrial arts.

The week-long campaign was also aimed at debunking the popular myth that the UK has lost its manufacturing base. Jeegar Kakkad, EEF's senior economist, said, "In the UK, the manufacturing sector is plagued by persistent myths — that manufacturing is in decline, that we don't make anything anymore, that industry is dirty and dangerous, that successful kids go to college while the slow ones work in manufacturing, and — even more dangerous — that we can keep the clever stuff in the UK and send the production abroad."

EEF North West Regional Director, David Ost said, "This week will give the perfect opportunity to celebrate the success of manufacturing and tell politicians and the public why manufacturing is so important to our future. We have to tackle the myth that the UK doesn't have a manufacturing sector and set out how our sector can take a more important role than it has done in the recent past"
