U.S. orders for manufactured goods rose in December

In December 2022, new orders for manufactured goods rose 1.8% or $10.0 billion following a 1.9% decrease in November.

In December 2022, new orders for manufactured goods rose 1.8% or $10.0 billion following a 1.9% decrease in November. In a report from the U.S. Census Bureau, orders for durable goods increase 5.6% while orders for nondurable goods decreased 1.9%, representing a $15.2
billion gain and a $5.2 billion loss, respectively.

According to the report, shipments remained down in December, decreasing an additional 0.7%, while unfilled orders increased 1.3%, bringing the unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio to 6.07.
