General Motors Co. has announced plans to invest $500 million into its Arlington, Texas, assembly plant. The facility will be used to produce internal combustion engines (ICEs) for full-size SUVs. Arlington Assembly produces GM’s complete line of full-size SUVs, including the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. The company’s investment will pay for the purchase of new tooling and equipment in its stamping, body shop and general assembly areas.
In a recent quote, Gerald Johnson, executive vice president, Global Manufacturing and Sustainability, said, "Today we are announcing plans for a significant investment in Arlington to strengthen our industry-leading full-size SUV business. Preparing the plant to produce future ICE full-size SUVs reflects our commitment to our valued customers and the efforts of the dedicated Arlington Assembly employees, who have been breaking production records this year.”
