Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation has announced plans to locate its MMR Assembly Plant (MAP) in Gadsden, Alabama. The gas-cooled microreactor company will use this facility to assemble, test, and inspect the non-radiological modules necessary for USNC’s Micro-Modular Reactor. The $232 million project includes a 578,000-square-foot factory outfitted with advanced equipment and processes that will allow the company to produce up to 10 complete MMR nuclear units per year. The production facility will generate 250 new jobs for the area and has the potential for expansion as demand increases over time.
In a recent quote, Ted Coulter, Plant Director for the MMR factory at USNC, said, “We are attracted to Gadsden by their skilled workforce and the outstanding training programs and support they are bringing to the table. In Gadsden, I have confidence we can hire local talent and operate with both safety and efficiency. We are looking forward to becoming a member of the community.”
