An OSHA investigation has determined that an Amazon fulfillment center in New Jersey exposed workers to ergonomic hazards. OSHA investigators determined that Amazon required employees to perform tasks that could lead to bodily stress and were capable of causing serious physical harm. The inspection also determined that Amazon had not established controls to ensure that injured employees received proper medical care. Two Hazard Alert Letters were issued, and Amazon faces $15,625 in penalties. This is the sixth time this year that OSHA has cited Amazon for various violations

In a recent quote, OSHA Area Director Paula Dixon-Roderick said, “The work done by Amazon employees in the company’s fulfillment centers is physically demanding, which makes the availability of proper medical care extremely important. Amazon needs to do more to protect the safety and health of its employees, including implementation of a companywide strategy to address well-known and preventable hazards.”
