Siemens Energy invests $149.8 million to build large power transformers in North Carolina
Siemens Energy, Inc. has announced plans to expand operations in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The company, which specializes in energy technologies, will invest $149.8 million into the project, creating 559 new jobs for the surrounding area. The new facility will be Siemens Energy’s first U.S. manufacturing site to build large power transformers (LPTs). The company will also expand its existing grid technology engineering operations in Wake County, North Carolina. The project has received a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), which was approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee.
In a recent quote, Tim Holt, Member of the Executive Board of Siemens Energy, said, “Manufacturing large power transformers in the United States will strengthen and expand our electrical grid to incorporate more renewable energy and meet growing energy demand. We are excited to do that in Charlotte, North Carolina where our existing factory and incredible team is answering the call of our customers and policymakers to help protect our nation’s energy and national security.”
