Mitsubishi invests $86M to build advanced switchgear factory in Pennsylvania
Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) has announced plans to construct an advanced switchgear factory in Western Pennsylvania. The company, which specializes in secure and sustainable energy systems and solutions, will invest $86 million into the project, generating 200 new jobs in the process. According to the company, this investment is motivated by increasing demand for transmission and distribution grid products. The 160,000-square-foot facility will focus on the production of both vacuum and gas circuit breakers. Eventually, MEPPI hopes to scale the plant’s operations, transitioning to predominantly manufacturing vacuum circuit breakers. Additionally, MEPPI will expand and upgrade its existing facilities in Warrendale, Pennsylvania. To aid the project, the company received a $4 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant and a $2.75 million Pennsylvania First grant.
