Pratt & Whitney invests $285M to expand turbine airfoil manufacturing plant in North Carolina
Pratt & Whitney has announced plans to expand its turbine airfoil manufacturing plant in Asheville, North Carolina. The company, which specializes in the design, manufacture, and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power units, will invest $285 million into the project, creating 325 new jobs in the process. With this investment, the facility, which produces high-tech turbine airfoils, will now offer an expanded production capacity to meet growing customer demand.
To help support the project, the company will receive a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG), which was approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee. Under the JDIG agreement, Pratt & Whitney will receive up to $4,202,250 over the next 12 years, once the company has met its incremental job creation and investment targets.

In a recent quote, Dan Field, Asheville General Manager for Pratt & Whitney, said, “Pratt & Whitney’s continued investment in Asheville is critical to meet the growing demand for our products, such as the GTF for the A320family and the F135 for the F-35 Lightning II,” said Asheville General Manager for Pratt & Whitney Dan Field. “We would like to thank the state, Buncombe County and Governor Stein for their support on this project. This latest round of investment allows us to add critical process elements for the manufacture of turbine airfoils and increase the overall delivery output of this facility, enabling us to deliver on our customer commitments while creating hundreds of new jobs in the Asheville community."
Governor Josh Stein added, "Western North Carolina’s economy took it on the chin after Hurricane Helene, yet still it remains an incredible place to work and do business. Pratt & Whitney clearly sees the opportunities in North Carolina and the strength of our highly skilled workforce. We look forward to welcoming them here.”
