Explosion, fire reported at Powder Alloy Corporation metal manufacturing plant in Ohio
An explosion has been reported at the Powder Alloy Corporation metal manufacturing plant in Loveland, Ohio. The company, which produces and supplies metal, ceramic, and carbide powders across the world, serves a variety of industries, including oil & gas, power & energy, biomedical, aero and industrial gas turbine, and additive manufacturing.
The incident occurred Monday night while five employees were working at the facility on Union Cemetery Road in the Loveland Commerce Park. According to FOX19, firefighters believe that dust inside the building’s dust collector compressed, causing the explosion and subsequent fire. Firefighters from nine fire departments, as well as a hazmat team, were called to the scene.
William Goldfeder, Deputy Chief for the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department, told reporters, “When the crews got here, our first priority was to determine what’s burning, because this could have been a hazardous materials incident. And that’s what our concern was. Sometimes you put water on a fire, and it’s not a good thing. They told us that it was involving some aluminum dust and things. We applied the necessary resources to make sure that we could put water on it.”
WLWT5 also covered the explosion, reporting that no one was seriously injured in the incident. Of the five on-site employees, only one was checked for minor injuries, but they did not need to go to the hospital. The fire has been extinguished, but the extent and cost of the damage is unknown.
