Apple to invest $500B to support U.S. innovation and advanced manufacturing
Apple has announced plans to invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. According to the company, this investment, which is Apple’s largest-ever spend commitment, will support an array of initiatives, from artificial intelligence and silicon engineering to skills development for students and workers across the country.
Apple also committed to opening a new advanced manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, with the assistance of its manufacturing partners. The new 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility will produce servers that support Apple Intelligence. Production at the new plant is expected to begin in 2026, and the project will generate thousands of new jobs for the surrounding area.
Additionally, Apple plans to double its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, bringing the total from $5 billion to $10 billion. The fund, which was created in 2017 to support innovation and high-skilled manufacturing jobs across America, includes a multibillion-dollar commitment from Apple to produce advanced silicon in TSMC’s Fab 21 facility in Arizona.
The company also announced plans to open the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, Michigan. The academy, which is designed to help companies transition to advanced manufacturing, will consult with small- and medium-sized businesses on implementing AI and smart manufacturing techniques. Apple engineers and experts from top universities will provide free in-person and online courses that teach workers vital skills like project management and manufacturing process optimization.
