Saint-Gobain invests $40M to build catalyst carrier manufacturing facility in New York
Saint-Gobain Ceramics, a global leader in ceramics and materials science, has announced the development of a new manufacturing facility in Wheatfield, New York. The facility will be operated by the company's subsidiary, Saint-Gobain NorPro, and is expected to revitalize a historic industrial property while expanding production of ceramic catalyst carriers used in key industries such as energy production, refining, biofuels, and chemical manufacturing. The company is investing over $40 million into the nearly 125,000 square-foot facility, which is anticipated to create approximately 30 new full-time jobs upon its completion.
The new facility will be located alongside Saint-Gobain Ceramics' existing Specialty Grains and Powders operations in Wheatfield. It will incorporate many of Saint-Gobain's sustainable building solutions to promote energy efficiency, and a commitment to reducing embodied carbon emissions by repurposing viable structures on-site and using repurposed materials. The construction of the facility is expected to begin later this year, with the project scheduled to be completed by 2028.
The project benefits from support through local and state economic investment programs, including $1 million from the New York State Excelsior Program. Saint-Gobain has also applied for additional hydropower from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to support the site’s expansion.
