NOVONIX invests $4.6M to open synthetic graphite manufacturing facility in Tennessee
NOVONIX has announced plans to acquire a 182-acre parcel of land for its second mass production plant, NOVONIX Enterprise South, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The company, which manufactures high-performance materials for the battery industry, has invested approximately $4.6 million into the purchase. The acquisition is expected to create 500 full-time jobs, and the facility will have a production capacity of 31,500 tonnes per annum (tpa) by the end of 2028. Combined with the Riverside facility, NOVONIX’s total production capacity in Chattanooga is projected to exceed 50,000 tpa by 2028.
Enterprise South will produce synthetic graphite, a key material used in batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The facility will employ advanced manufacturing technologies to meet the growing demand from customers such as Panasonic Energy, Stellantis, and PowerCo. In addition, NOVONIX has received approximately $54 million in net tax benefits over a 15-year period, subject to meeting certain conditions.
The Company also announced an expansion of its partnership with Lookout Valley Middle High School through the NOVONIX Institute of Advanced Battery Technology (NIABT), part of Hamilton County’s Future Ready Institutes. This provides career-focused learning opportunities to equip students with the skills needed for careers in the battery industry and other STEM fields.
In December 2024, NOVONIX received a conditional commitment from the U.S. Department of Energy for a loan of up to $754.8 million to help finance the construction of Enterprise South.
