JCB invests $500M to expand construction equipment manufacturing facility in Texas

The revised plan will double the size of the company’s San Antonio facility to one million square feet.

JCB has announced plans to expand its new manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas, which is currently under construction. The company, which manufactures construction equipment, is investing $500 million in the project and expects to create up to 1,500 new jobs.

Originally planned as a 500,000-square-foot facility, the project has now been revised to span one million square feet. Located on 400 acres of land, the site will support JCB’s continued growth in the North American market and increase its ability to produce a wider range of machines closer to its customer base.

Production at the new facility is expected to begin next year. The expansion reflects the company’s response to recent tariff changes and the ongoing need to strengthen its manufacturing footprint in the United States.

What people are saying

In a recent quote, Lord Bamford, Chairman, JCB, said, "JCB has been in business for 80 years this year and we are well accustomed to change. The United States is the largest market for construction equipment in the world and President Trump has galvanized us into evaluating how we can make even more products in the USA, which has been an important market for JCB since we sold our first machine there in 1964."

In a recent quote, Graeme Macdonald, CEO, JCB, said, "In the short term, the imposition of tariffs will have a significant impact on our business. However, in the medium term, our planned factory in San Antonio will help to mitigate the impact. We are thankful that the tariff is only 10% and we can only hope that the UK Government will conclude negotiations on a trade deal in the coming days and weeks."
