Hitachi Energy invests $70M to expand high-voltage manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania
Hitachi Energy has announced plans to invest over $70 million to expand its high-voltage equipment manufacturing operations in Mount Pleasant and Hunker, Pennsylvania. The company, which produces advanced electrical grid technologies including switchgear and breakers, is creating more than 100 new jobs as part of the project.
The expansion will significantly increase production capacity for key high-voltage equipment such as Dead Tank Breakers (DTB), Plug and Switch Systems (PASS), and other components critical to power grid reliability. A major part of the investment includes the implementation of a gas management system that will support the production of EconiQ, the company’s sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆)-free switchgear technology.
A new facility in Hunker, located approximately seven miles from Mount Pleasant, will be used to expand high-voltage component manufacturing. It will also feature a dedicated research and development lab and a customer experience center. Additional upgrades at existing sites include improvements to shipping infrastructure for faster and more efficient delivery of products.
With construction beginning this year, Hitachi Energy expects the facilities to reach full production capacity by 2026. The investment will also consolidate high-voltage services operations into a single location to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development is supporting the project through a $184,000 Pennsylvania First grant and a $145,000 WEDnetPA grant to train employees.
