5 workers killed, 10 injured in explosion at aluminum manufacturing facility
An explosion at an aluminum foil manufacturing facility has cause the death of at least five people and injured 10 others. The blast and subsequent fire occurred at MMP Aluminium Industries in Umred MIDC in India. The Times of India is reporting that two victims died from their injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital. The deaths of three others, who were initially reported missing, have also been confirmed. According to The Hindu, the victims, all young workers aged 20 to 25, were from Nagpur district.
The fire has been fed by the aluminum powder located in the facility. Officials told The Economic Times that the fire would only be extinguished after the aluminum powder had burned out completely.
According to Business Standard, MMP Industries has expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of life, offering its condolences to the families affected. The company has assured that it will take corrective and preventive steps in line with the investigation's conclusions. The firm also noted that the estimated damages to inventory and machinery are fully covered by insurance. Other parts of the plant will resume operations after completing the necessary statutory procedures.
Lokmat Times is reporting that a government report from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health revealed that the factory put workers in danger by not giving them proper safety gear or training. After the Nagpur explosion, police in Umred registered a case against two managers and the safety officer for negligence, citing Sections 106(1), 287, and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
